You can feel instantly lifted by your favorite music. Researchers are discovering that music does more than just lift your spirits.

It has a host of health benefits, according to scientific studies.

Austrian researchers have discovered that patients suffering from chronic back pain may benefit from hearing music.

1. CHRONIC BACK Pain

It works: Music uses an autonomic central nervous systems – neglect the central nervous system responsible for controlling bloodstream pressure, heartbeat, and thinking processes – as well as the limbic sistem – negligence that is the part of the brain that controls emotions and feelings. These two systems are sensitive to music, according to research.

Slow rhythms can help reduce blood pressure and heartbeat, which will allow us to breathe more slowly and reduce muscle tension in our neck, stomach, and back. Experts also state that music can reduce mental tension.

Simply put, discomfort causes us to feel fearful, frustrated, and angry. This can lead to tightening of our back muscles. Regular listening to music can help our bodies relax both psychologically and physically, which helps us relieve and even stop back discomfort.

The study: A new research paper from Austria’s General Hospital in Salzburg could provide a solution to back pain. It will be published in the Vienna Medical Weekly Journal. The study involved 65 patients with back pain after back surgery. They were divided into two groups.

One group received therapy and standard health care. One group received standard health care and therapy. Another group was instructed in visualization for 25 minutes each day for three days. The results showed that those who used imagery and took in music experienced more discomfort relief than those who did not.

Franz Wendtner, a clinical psychiatrist who presented the research, stated that music is an integral part of our emotional and physical well-being – ever since I was a baby in my mother’s womb listening to her heartbeats and breathing rhythms.

“Listening to music for 25 minutes every day, not less than 10 nights, might prevent back discomfort and help you sleep better.

2. Improve Your Exercise Routine

It works: Experts believe that music can help you get a better workout. It may increase your endurance, improve mood, and distract from any discomfort you may experience during your workout.

The study: Dr Robert Herdegen from America’s Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia, examined the results of 12 men who cycled for 10 minutes while listening to music. He compared it to the same men who rode bicycles for 10 minutes without music the next day.

The men who worked out listening to music travelled 11 percent more than those who did not. Scientists discovered that men spent the least effort when listening to music.
